Even we have already known many benefits of consuming extra virgin olive oil. Now we discover one more important benefit: it prevents stroke.

This news has been pointed out by a study carried out by the Bringham and Women's Hospital in Massachusetts, the first highlight is about how the consumption of ¨gold liquid¨ become an important factor in the prevention of strokes.

Scientists investigated 117,000 nurses, at the same time, also monitored their health and eating habits for more than 27 years. None of them had cardiovascular problems at the beginning of the research.

The results have been presented in advance at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association. It was found that women who regularly consumed a higher amount of vegetable fats, including extra virgin olive oil, had a 12% lower risk of suffering a stroke compared with their colleagues who consumed less.

Meanwhile, the study highlighted that animal fats, mainly of the saturated type, increased the risk of suffering a stroke by 16%, while those derived from dairy products did not appear to present any additional risk factor.

Olive oil is the natural vegetable oil extracted from olives, the fruit of the olive tree, which is rich in healthy monounsaturated fats, about 14% of the oil is saturated fat, whereas 11% is polyunsaturated, such as omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Studies also show that the fatty acids and antioxidants in olive oil can offer some powerful health benefits, not only can prevent the stroke, also include reducing the risk of heart disease…etc.

In conclusion, the study highlights especially: ¨Products such as extra virgin olive oil, nuts and oilseeds are real allies for our health¨.
