India is one of the biggest market in Asia with more than 1,350 million persons and according to its population grow, it will become the most populous country in the world during the following years.

Also, the consumption of olive oil is increasing in India during the last decades. New healthy food habits and a strengthening of the purchasing power of the population are some reason that explain it.

Taking these points in consideration, a Spanish Olive Oil Trade mission was organized by Extenda – The Trade Promotion Agency of Andalusia in Delhi and Mumbai and BETIS was happy to be there. Andalusia is the main olive oil producer area in Spain and consequently in the world, bigger than other countries like Italy or Greece, so it is a strategic sector that our regional government tries to promote usually.

It was a full agenda of four intense days of meetings with Indian importers and prescribers, visits to some points of sale and public bodies. It helped us to understand better the Indian market and to meet some potential partners who had the opportunity to taste our oils and discuss together about future collaboration.

Instead of the pandemic, the constant increasing freight cost and the high customs duties, the Olive Oil market is still increasing in India and the forecast of the market is even better, quite optimistic. BETIS Olive Oil will push to make it real.
